Torchlight Parade 2011

About OurCarnoustie

In November 2009 a Tweet was sent to find out when the local Torchlight Parade was taking place in Carnoustie.  A local individual saying he also wanted to know the same thing and couldn’t find information anywhere.  There  used to be a notice board outside Carnoustie library (now gone) and a diary of events in the library (empty). Eventually he found the information and tweeted back.  He also tweeted suggesting something be done about this lack of information.

Since that tweet back in December 2009 OurCarnoustie has formed and we have set up a google site www.ourcarnoustie.co.uk (now replaced by this WordPress managed site, Facebook page www.facebook.com/ourcarnoustie, Twitter account  www.twitter.com/ourcarnoustie,Video sites on YouTube www.youtube.com/ourcarnoustie and Vimeo  www.vimeo.com/ourcarnoustie plus we have run a chat room on a number of Friday evenings and had a couple of social events to meet our followers.  We have also run an ideas site for the Kinloch Centre http://ourcarnoustie.ideascale.com

When-ever we attend local events to take photos lots of people speak to us to say that they love the site and that they check it daily to see what’s going on.  It’s now the first place may people go to both advertise events and find out whats coming up.  We also have a large number of followers from out-with Carnoustie – either people wanting to see what’s happening or people who used to live or who have family still living in the town.

On the back of OurCarnoustie we have been approached by a number of groups asking for advice about setting up a web presence – this has included the Kinloch Centre Action Group and the Local Community Council.  We have also been employed by Carnoustie Business Association to create an Online Business Directory for them which we are due to start work on any day.

Not bad for a couple of local lads who are husbands, dads and already have a fairly full work/family life.

I wonder what 2011 will bring for OurCarnoustie?  If we can reach 2,000 followers on facebook by the end of the year that would be great.

UPDATE: Well its the 13th October and we are now well passed our planned 2000 ‘likes’by the end of 2011 – we are now currently over 2,200.

Thank you all so much for liking us on facebook.  Plus we’ve also tweeted out over 3,000 times now from our twitter account @ourcarnoustie
